About Us

Adventure High has been in business since 1989.  There have been many changes and opportunities for growth, which wouldn’t be possible without all the incredible staff that have worked here throughout the years.  Beginning with only five kayaks, there are now over 20 kayaks.  In addition, we have built and renovated two cottages.  In 2013 we acquired the Compass Rose Heritage Inn and Dining Room.  We are excited to offer beautiful waterfront accommodations, along with delicious home cooked meals! So now the outdoor enthusiast (that’s you) can view the splendours of Mother Nature from two different perspectives – land and sea.  As the only sea kayaking company on Grand Manan, we pride ourselves on offering individual, personal and unique service.

It is now 2014 and Adventure High have been in business since 1989 – 25 years!!!!  There have been many changes and opportunities for growth, which wouldn’t be possible without all the incredible staff that have worked here throughout the years.  Beginning with only five kayaks, there are now over 20 kayaks, plus 18 bicycles for rent.  In addition, we have built and renovated two cottages.  So now the outdoor enthusiast (that’s you) can view the splendors of Mother Nature from two different perspectives – land and sea.

We have been running quality adventures in some of the most fascinating coastal areas in the world. Our adventures are aimed at people (like you) who are looking for fun and a challenge!! As the only sea kayaking and cycling company on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, we pride ourselves on offering individual, personal, and unique service.

The past year has been one filled with many exciting opportunities for me personally and as a business.  Last season (2013) I had the opportunity to lease the Compass Rose Heritage Inn and Dining Room.  While I have experience in cottage rentals – the Inn was a new concept for me, but I was up for the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  The dining room however was completely foreign to me, but you never know what you can do until you try.  I was aware that with this endevour I would need help, so fortunately I knew just the right people.  With their expertise we opened for evening meals, specializing in lobster dinners and it was a great success.   On January 1, 2014 Adventure High purchased the Compass Rose and are now open for business.  I have an amazing staff and know that it will be a great addition to our company.

There is a new multi-day tour being offered, which combines camping, kayaking and lodging at the Compass Rose – The Grand Manan Experience.  It is an exciting time at Adventure High and look forward to sharing it with all of you.

I am currently changing our reservation system and it will be a big improvement, as you will now have the ability to book both kayak tours and accommodations on-line.  Adventure High will effectively now be open 24/7.  This new system is very comprehensive with all possible information you will need to make a reservation.  However, you can still contact our office with any questions you have.  As always, we are available to make reservations for you through email or by phone. While there are still a few “glitches” in the system, as there always tend to be with any updates, it will be an opportunity to enhance our service to you.  At Adventure High, we are always looking for ways to improve our service to you, our valued customers.

Personally, the family is growing (age-wise, not size).  Our three boys have managed to age somehow, while as a parent, I feel that I haven’t aged at all.  Brett is now 20 and enrolled in a college program for graphic design – as payback, I’ve informed him that he will be in charge of the website, at no charge of course.  Brady is 17 and in grade 11.  He will be working at the Compass Rose this summer.  He is a great worker and willing to put in the long hours that are involved with running it.  Isaac (my baby) is now officially a teenager, having just turned 13.  He too will be helping out at the Compass Rose and it will be a great learning experience for him.  This summer will have Linda at the Compass Rose on a full-time basis, while I will be running things at Adventure High.

It was another successful season with the cabins and looking forward to another season of welcoming folks to experience all that we have to offer.  Our alternative powered cabin (Nature’s Window) is not only a great getaway but a great learning experience too.  With positive feedback from our great guests, we have truly made it into a unique island getaway.

Adventure High has also been the proud recipient of New Brunswick’s “Savvy Traveller Award”.  This award is given to companies for the high quality of service and professionalism that they offer to their guests. As the president, I feel that it is important to play an active role in the development of the adventure travel and sea kayaking industry.

It has been a rewarding journey and I have learned a great deal from you, our guests.  I look forward to all the adventures that await us and hope to see you soon!
